The first case of infection with a severe “clade I” strain of monkeypox in the United States was discovered in California. This was reported by CNN.
“The clade I mpox case recently returned from East Africa, where there is an ongoing outbreak of mpox. “The patient was treated at a local medical center and was subsequently discharged.” – said the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to the doctors, the patient is improving. He is at home in isolation. CDC is working to identify and trace potential contacts.
Previously, on November 5, two more cases of monkeypox infection were reported in the United Kingdom. It should be noted that the new patients had contact at home with the first infected person. Patients are under the supervision of specialists in London.
On 13 October, the first two cases of monkeypox (mpox) were reported in Zimbabwe. As noted, those infected include an 11-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man.
August 14, head of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared a health emergency over monkeypox and called on the international community to come together to collect more than 2 million vaccines.
Monkeypox (mpox) is a rare viral disease that is potentially harmful to immunocompromised people. The infection is accompanied by fever, intoxication, enlargement of the lymph nodes and the subsequent spread of the rash: first in the form of spots that transform into blisters, after opening ulcers form, after they heal – scabs and, when fall, scars. With a mild course, the disease usually disappears on its own and lasts 14 to 21 days, Izvestia reminds.
