An operation by the Civil Guard against drug trafficking carried out on Saturday night in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) left one dead and four injured, all members of the crew of a boat dedicated to drug trafficking, after it hit the coast and capsized.
As detailed by the Civil Guard in a note, the operation began when the presence of eight drug boats entering through the Guadalquivir River was detected. The device, formed by the Maritime Service of Cadiz and Huelva and with the helicopter, agents of the Command of Cadiz and the GAR, prevented the landing of the cache of 121 bales of hashish.
One of the boats, with four engines, which was carrying drugs, was accompanied by another who served as its guide. Once they reached land, they began to unload the load, and the helicopter then landed next to them. The crew fled on board the larger drug boat, abandoning 47 bales of hashish and the boat that served as its guide.
After that, a chase began, which was joined by the DAVA boat, which lasted about 400 meters, since the drug boat collided with the coast after crossing the river in a straight line from one side to the other. The boat capsized, causing the death of one person while four others were injured to varying degrees.
The agents seized 74 other bales of hashish scattered at the scene of the accident. The procedure is being led by the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Cádiz and will be forwarded to the Court of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
