A 32-year-old hiker has died and another is missing in the Serra de Tramuntana following the severe storm that hit Mallorca on Tuesday. Emergency services have located the lifeless body of the young man, a British national, who had been missing since yesterday in the area of Torrent de Pareis, in the municipality of Escorca, and whose body was found near this area.
Emergency services, the Mallorca firefighters and the Civil Guard are now trying to find the second missing hiker, also a British woman. 112 has activated the psychology service to assist the victim’s family and friends and they have stressed the need to follow the recommendations and not commit any recklessness during orange alert episodes.
The Army Institute has already had to rescue this Tuesday a dozen people trapped in the Torrent de Pareis after the flooding caused by a waterspout. The Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (Greim) of the Civil Guard has set up a device throughout the day in the area to prevent possible accidents for hikers who go to this area and taking into account the forecast of heavy rains.
The Command decided to implement this device due to the experience of previous years, in which it is common for water to surprise hikers, many of whom do not pay attention to weather forecasts and find themselves trapped due to rising waters. The agents found hikers without warm clothing and completely wet.
