Belgian photographer Yves Adams managed to capture an image of a completely black penguin, considered one of the rarest creatures in the world.
Oku.AzAccording to the “Daily Mail”, a unique specimen was observed in St. Andrews Bay, in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
According to Adams, he did not want to miss the opportunity to photograph the rare bird as soon as he received information from his colleague about the presence of a black penguin in the area and immediately headed to the beach.
“I felt very happy to be able to capture all this,” the Belgian photographer shared about his emotions.
According to Adams, the chance of finding a completely black penguin is about one in 100,000.
These birds carry a rare genetic mutation of melanism, which is why their feathers turn coal black. Unfortunately, this trait makes them more vulnerable to predators.
Adams said he hopes his photographs inspire other hikers and wildlife enthusiasts to seek out this rare species.
