One less day for the teacher, one more flower?

More than one hundred countries in the world celebrate October 5 every year as International Teachers’ Day.

In some schools, holidays are organized for teachers on different dates. For example, for Argentina today is a national holiday and is celebrated on September 11, that day the educational system is completely closed. In Brazil, on October 15, teachers and students celebrate by bringing homemade sweets to school. In China, on the birthday of the philosopher Confucius, September 28, parents bring bouquets of flowers to their former teachers. Teachers have vacation in Lebanon for exactly one week, from March 3 to 9. In the United States, this week is organized in early May: students present handwritten postcards to their favorite teachers.

In Azerbaijan, as this important day approaches, there is debate about whether parents will raise money or not, and the relevant institution is sending special instructions to schools. For example, this year, the State Agency for Preschool and General Education stated that it is unacceptable for parents to give material and non-material gifts, valuables, collect money for this purpose, etc.

I wonder how this International Teachers’ Day should be celebrated so that both teachers and parents are satisfied?

Education expert on the subject. Ilgar Orujov Read.AzHe said in his statement that the establishment of a special day demonstrates the value placed on teachers and the teaching profession in Azerbaijan. According to him, charging a certain amount of money from parents on this day increases the sanctity of this profession.

“In general, big gifts and money collections harm the honor and sanctity of the teacher’s name. I believe that parents and students can congratulate teachers in a simple way. That is, these congratulations should not be measured by things materials.

It is the duty of the teacher to teach the student. Today, a teacher has taught reading and writing to everyone regardless of their profession, be it a scientist or a worker. Of course, the teacher’s fee is not paid. But anyway the State reimburses him for his work.

In many cases, parents are the ones who initiate the giving of gifts, money and gold to teachers. A normal principal should take action when these types of situations occur at school. If you don’t see it, then you have a part in it. “Relevant institutions should take action against the problem of money collection, which has become an ugly tradition in schools, and the school principal and teachers should be punished.”

Sociologist Lala Mehrali and said that the issue of congratulating teachers on Teacher’s Day, March 8 and other holidays should not be exaggerated so much:

“This is a completely optional situation. Congratulations can be in different forms, for example, with a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates. Because today people’s standard of living is different. If a parent gives money voluntarily to a teacher, you should not For example, a normal bouquet of flowers costs 25-30 manats. Instead of spending this money on flowers, it is better to put it in an envelope and give it to the teacher.

According to the sociologist, in the case of coercion, the nature of the work changes:

“Unfortunately, in matters of raising money for the teacher, there are also forced cases. In such cases, the work is diverted. In general, this case misses the importance of congratulations.”

honored teacher diamond longing Oku.AzIn his statement he said that many people do not understand the importance of this day.

“The best gift for a teacher is to hear a kind word and be respected. Money, expensive gifts and flowers are temporary. Teachers should not harm this sacred profession. On this day, my only request to parents is that they be kind and respectful.”
