One Monday a month to visit Salamanca City Hall

Salamanca City Hall will organize an open day on the first Monday of each month from October 7. The objective is to bring the main rooms of the town hall closer to Salamancans and visitors so that they can be known to everyone from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Specifically, you can visit the entrance hall, where there is a bronze sculpture that pays homage to Councilor José del Castillo, Count of Francos, one of the main promoters of the construction of the Plaza Mayor. From there you will access the plenary room, where you can see the three frescoes by the Salamancan painter Ramón Melero, which represent important episodes in the historical life of the city.

The tour will continue up the marble staircase to the Mayor’s Hall, from where you will access the Reception Room, one of the main rooms of the City Hall, which hosts the main events organized in the city hall. In this place, visitors will be able to see the portrait of King Felipe VI who presides over the room, as well as reproductions of the Virgen de la Vega and San Juan de Sahagún, patron saints of the city.

In this same room, we can also see a safe protected by a grille and closed with three locks, which contains inside a facsimile of the Salamanca Center and its transcription, as well as one of the three keys to the urn that contains the remains of San Juan de Sahagún. Finally, you can visit a room adjacent to the reception room, which houses a painting depicting the portrait of Queen Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg dressed in charro costume.
