One of China’s most popular electric cars to be redesigned

Chinese company Wuling is preparing to radically change the design of the Hongguang Mini EV electric car.

Certified images of the modernized three-door hatchback and official photographs of the five-door version have reportedly been published. It is assumed that the previous base engine of the “Mini EV” will also be changed in parallel.

The “Wuling Hongguang Mini EV” was introduced in China in 2020 and has so far featured a distinctive angular design. As a result of the update, the electric car will have a fundamentally different appearance with simplified body contours and new lighting technology. At the same time, the internal architecture is expected to be borrowed from the current model.

At the same time, the dimensions of the “Mini EV” will be increased. The three-door version 2 is certified at dimensions of 3256x1510x1578 millimetres with a wheelbase of 190 millimetres. This means an increase of more than 200 millimetres between the bumpers and the axles of the electric car. It is not yet known whether the five-door modification will be larger.

The “Hongguang Mini EV” will receive a 41-horsepower electric motor after the update and will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h. So far, such a unit is installed only in expensive versions, and the most affordable configurations are equipped with a 27-horsepower engine.

According to preliminary information, Wuling plans to abandon the small engine, and at the same time, the changes are not expected to affect the price of the model. Currently, the price of the “Hongguang Mini EV” starts at 32.8 thousand yuan (about 8 million manats).

The model is considered one of the most popular electric cars in China: sales of the “Hongguang Mini EV” exceeded one million units at the beginning of last year. However, due to declining demand, the new design is intended to draw more attention to the “Mini EV”.
