One of Europe’s most wanted fugitives arrested in Madrid and sentenced to 29 years in prison for drug trafficking

The National Police arrested in Madrid one of Europe’s ten most wanted fugitivesone of the leaders of a Kosovar-Albanian criminal organization sentenced to more than 29 years in prison in Belgium for drug trafficking. They are Haredin Fejzullaa 59-year-old Albanian accused of leading, with his family and friends, a gang based in Belgium and dedicated to the cultivation and trafficking of cannabis, an illicit trade with which they amassed a fortune of more than four million euros.

As reported by the General Directorate of Police, investigations to find his whereabouts began in January 2023, due to suspicions that he could be in Spain. The fugitive took numerous security measures to avoid being located and had different vehicles in which he was traveling hidden, as well as multiple addresses where he spent the night intermittently.

He also changed his mobile phone regularly. However, he was located last Thursday as he was walking towards a van that had gone looking for him near one of his hideouts. The National Police arrested Haredin Fejzulla under a European arrest and surrender warrant issued by the Belgian authorities, the country in which He was sentenced to more than 29 years in prison for thirteen offences of drug trafficking, membership in a criminal organisation and falsification of documents committed between 2014 and 2018.

After his arrest, he was placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court, which must decide whether to extradite him to Belgium. His group had a perfectly defined structureOn the lowest floor were the gardeners and cleaning staff in charge of the cannabis plantations. Above were the fundraisers, the logistics managers – renting accommodation or providing vehicles – and the managers, who coordinated all the activity.

To carry out these activities, they used false documents to sign electricity contracts and rent houses where they practiced massive crops and recruited people in the country illegally. The investigation carried out by the Belgian authorities against the Haredin Fejzulla gang resulted in the dismantling of more than thirteen cannabis plantations and their arrests.

However, after being sentenced to more than 29 years in prison, he managed to escape and Belgium had already released three European arrest warrants against him. He was on Europol’s “Europe’s Most Wanted Fugitives” list, which lists the continent’s most wanted fugitives.
