One of the monks, aged 76, who remained in a very serious condition at the Clinical Hospital of Valencia after being attacked this Saturday in his congregation of the Holy Spirit of Mont Gilet (Valence) with six other religious, is died, according to sources.
The attack occurred Saturday morningwhen the attacker – who will be brought to justice this Tuesday – entered the Gilet premises and reached the rooms on one of the upper floors and, as explained by other monks who witnessed what happened passed, attacked seven of them with sticks and a bottle, shouting “I am Jesus Christ and I am going to kill the brothers”.
The Civil Guard arrested a man for this Saturday’s attack on the religious of the Monastery of Santo Espíritu del Monte. After jumping the fence, a man brutally attacked seven brothers, shouting “I am Jesus Christ and I will kill you“. He allegedly hit them with a cane, a stick and a glass bottle. In fact, one of the Franciscan clerics was initially presumed dead. Later, investigative sources clarified that the monk was in critical condition. La Benemérita located the alleged perpetrator, aged 46, in a squatted apartment.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Center of the Generalitat of Valencia received a notice on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. indicating that health structures had provided assistance to a 76-year-old man for head traumawho was transferred to the clinical hospital.
Sources from the Archbishopric of Valencia initially confirmed the death of the religious, but the Civil Guard reported that the monk was still alive at the Valencia Clinical Hospital in a very serious condition until this Monday, sources from the Archbishopric of Valencia. Another injured monk, aged 95, was transferred from the Sagunto hospital to the clinic and returned this Monday to the first center, where he remains admitted, while another of the attacked, aged 66, remains hospitalized in Sagunto.
Three other men, aged 57, 66 and 95, who suffered bruises and trauma, were also treated.
