In this sense, and taking into account the possibility of committing violent action of a jihadist nature, the person indicted was arrested. This person was arrested in the town of Avilés (Asturias). Investigators arrested one person for his alleged participation in the crimes of terrorist indoctrination and self-training.

The investigation began at the beginning of this year when counterterrorism experts detected an individual close to the principles of Daesh who was preparing and disseminating, through his social networks, radical and violent jihadist material.

In the early hours of last Tuesday, officers launched a police operation which resulted in the arrest of this person, the search of his home and two vehicles. In these, researchers worked on various computer hardware being analyzed.

Contacts in conflict zones

After a timely investigation, the agents verified that among the contacts on their social networks were several jihadist profiles located in the conflict zone. In addition, it was highlighted the advanced state of radicalization of the detainee, who massively displayed a large amount of violent material and terrorist glorification.

Aware of his terrorist activity, he took strict security measures to prevent the police from detecting him. Thus, among other things, he used computer programs that allowed him to navigate in complete safety, thus avoiding being detected and identified by the Police.

Collaboration with Morocco

The operation, which was carried out by agents of the General Information Commission and the Provincial Information Brigade of San Sebastián, was carried out under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number 1 and the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court. . At the international level, it benefited from the collaboration of the General Directorate of Territorial Security of Morocco (DGST).

The investigation into the subject arrested in Avilés began at the beginning of this year, when agents detected a radicalized individual who was issuing pro-jihadist proclamations through social networks. The operation was carried out by agents of the General Information Commission and the Asturias Provincial Information Brigade, under the direction of the Central Investigative Court number five and the National Court Prosecutor’s Office.

During the investigation, officers verified how the detainee had internalized jihadist ideology. As a result, this subject was very active on social networks, where he had a large number of followers to whom he sent pro-jihadist multimedia content. In these contents, the detainee openly expressed his hatred towards everything Western and its way of life.

In his publications, he directly incited the realization of jihad, calling for an uprising of Muslims in the city of Melilla and made comments in support of the Palestinian cause.

Furthermore, aware of the illegality of his activities, the detainee adopted various security measures to avoid being spotted by police officers. All this, combined with the fact that the inmate had intense thoughts of committing an act of martyrdom, led officers to make his arrest last Tuesday.

In addition, they searched two homes, seized various computer equipment, which continues to be analyzed. Investigators thus believe that a danger to national security has been neutralized. Also today, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Central Investigating Court No. 5 of the National Court, which ordered his imprisonment.
