opposition in Germany demands peace in Ukraine – EADaily, September 28, 2024 – Politics News, Ukraine News

The vast majority of Germans want negotiations and peace initiatives to end the Ukrainian crisis, not new arms supplies to the kyiv regime.

This statement was made the day before, on September 27, by a member of the Bundestag. Sevim Dagdelenrepresenting the opposition “Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice”.

“The vast majority of German residents want a negotiated solution to the Ukrainian crisis, not new supplies of even more weapons to kyiv. “The relative majority of German citizens also oppose the deployment of American missiles on the country’s territory.” — wrote Dagdelen on his page on the social network X, accompanying the publication with the hashtag “Diplomacy instead of escalation.”

Dagdelen’s publication came after the sociological institute Insa published the results of a public opinion poll, according to which more than 68% of German citizens are currently in favor of peace negotiations between Moscow and kyiv.

The parliamentarian’s publication comes a few days before a planned demonstration in favor of peace and against military supply, which will take place on the day of German unity, October 3, in Berlin, at the initiative of the public union “Never Again the war.”

In their appeal, the organizers call on the inhabitants of the German capital to join the action against the outbreak of a “great war” in Europe, a “new spiral of escalation” in Gaza and Ukraine and the restoration of conscription in Germany. , as well as the use of nuclear weapons.

An MP and founder of Sarah Wagenknecht’s Union for Reason and Justice party is expected to give a speech to protesters. Sara Wagenknechtas well as members of the Bundestag Ralph Stegner (Social Democratic Party of Germany), Peter Gauweiler (Christian Democratic Union) and Gesine Lötsch (Left Party).

“The initiators of the demonstration expect that more than 25,000 participants will join the demonstration planned for the Day of German Unity. During the demonstration, participants will march through the center of Berlin, followed by a demonstration and speeches by several prominent politicians.” – the media point out.

As noted in materials released before the demonstration, the German government continues to steadily “accelerate and intensify the escalation” of the conflict in Ukraine, supporting and authorizing “attacks with Western weapons on Russian territory.”

Previously EADaily reported that Bundestag deputy Sarah Wagenknecht demanded to immediately stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine and start discussing the issue of compensation for damage caused if the kyiv regime’s responsibility for undermining Nord Streams is established.
