We are part of a Union that respects the old rules and does not understand a new reality in which international laws do not govern. We are part of a weak and disoriented Union. We are entering a muddy situation in Spain. And we do it as orphans
We have already gone through, if we are talking about politics, muddy situations like this. A government that repeats lies, an incompetent opposition (and which repeats lies), general discontent. We’ve been through this and much worse. And in times of serious economic and social crisis, which is not the case today.
It turns out that, more or less until now, there has been a pantry of hope that we might call “convergence.” Not that of Jordi Pujol, of course. I am referring to the expectation that, little by little, despite cases of corruption, lies and even bloodshed, we would move closer to the model countries, France and Germany, and that we would conform to the European Union standards. There was a path and a goal.
France and Germany, both powers or minipowers in serious difficulty, are hardly exemplary today. As for the European Union, it is no longer the project it was. We do not know where it is going, if it is going anywhere, and we do not know if, in the case of maintaining an objective (apart from those programs which are there to fail), its slow decision-making mechanism decision would allow you to follow a certain direction.
We are part of a Union which, with a war on its borders, that of Ukraine, has limited itself to following Washington’s instructions through NATO and has members, like Hungary, very close to the positions Russians. We are part of a Union incapable of adopting a firm position, or at least a position of any kind, in the face of the multiple wars and massacres that Israel is undertaking.
We are part of a Union that shows its moral character when it comes to immigrants (except Ukrainians): those who pose as progressive finance isolated concentration camps and militias of dictatorial regimes in the aim of stopping this tide of malcontents who aspire to arrive, at all costs, in the European paradise; Those who proclaim themselves “patriots” are betting directly on shipwrecks without rescue, on brutalities at the borders and, whenever they can, on mass deportations.
We are part of a diminished Union, both industrially and strategically (and, internally, morally), in the new bipolar world composed of the emerging superpower, China, and the military giant, the United States, as well as new “big ones” like the United States. India. We are part of a Union that respects the old rules and does not understand a new reality in which international laws do not govern but, it seems, the law of the strongest. We are part of a weak and disoriented Union.
