Oscar Lopez “returns” to Castile and Leon, now as minister

Riaza. The same city of Segovia in which he has his family roots, originally from the neighboring town of Bercimuel and which continues to evoke those childhood summers. The one in which at dawn in April 2010 he climbed a cliff to confirm that he would lead the candidacy of the PSOE of Castilla y León to try to snatch – without success – the hegemony of the PP in the Community and launch his “Pure Change” Campaign…Oscar Lopez returned with his new position this Saturday.

And it is that he new Minister of Digital Transformation and Civil Service chose to return to his roots for his first act outside Madrid For just over a week, he succeeded José Luis Escriva as head of the department. “It is an honor and a pleasure that, according to the calendar, the first act I have had to do for a party is in my city,” said the new member of the Council of Ministers chaired by Pedro Sánchez.

THE PSOE Rose Festival of the Northeast Group of Segovia held in Riaza served as the framework for the political return to Castile and León of someone who dreamed of one day overthrowing the PP of the Junta and who instilled in his people the illusion of a “pure change” that crashed in a resounding defeat at the polls at a time when the ZP effect was a burden. 29 lawyers for the socialists and 53 for Juan Vicente Herrera, then unbeatable, the result of that year 2011 that placed Óscar López at the head of the opposition.

He remained there until 2015, when, not without some inner unease, he was elected senator of the Community. This Madrilenian by birth and Segovin by adoption returned to the capital, leaving behind his political scene in Castilla y Leónwhere he “landed” in 2004 as a deputy for Segovia. From there, he was catapulted to the Autonomous Secretariat of the PSOE, which he took over in 2008 and where he only remained until 2012, with an electoral defeat to his credit.

Short, but intense. Lopez does not forget it. And in his speech this Saturday in Riaza, he said it clearly. He claimed to be “knowing all that has been done and said on this earth for many years”remembering his time in the Cortes. “Very old and very long debates in which the Council said that it was going to bring the internet and broadband to the rural world. What a lot of failed promises! Fortunately, today in Spain there is a socialist government, led by Pedro Sánchez, which has extended broadband internet to one hundred percent of homes throughout Spain, thus reducing the gap between the rural and urban world,” the new minister stressed. And he announced that his department would invest in Castilla y León 200 million euros -1,000 throughout Spain- to expand the 5G high speed and that it “reaches everywhere.”
