Oscar Puente fires Adif president Angel Contreras after summer of rail problems

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has dismissed the president of Adif, Ángel Contreras, who is leaving the post of manager of the railway infrastructure less than a year after taking office, according to El Español.

This replacement, as ministerial sources explain to elDiario.es, responds to a restructuring of the Adif organization chart with the aim of promoting the management of the company. For the moment, he has no replacement at the head of the railway management.

Contreras came to power in November last year and was a household name. He had been working at Adif since 2011 and before becoming president he was the general director of conservation and maintenance of the railway manager, where he was in charge, for example, of renewing high-speed lines or resolving incidents such as Filomena or Gloria.

This incident management has been in the pillory for months. During the past summer, incidents and train delays have multiplied, related both to Renfe trains (due to breakdowns of models such as Talgo’s Avril), as well as to infrastructure problems or improvement works, such as those currently underway at Madrid’s Chamartín Station.
