During the presentation of the allegations, the mayor of Sencelles, Joan Carles Verdexplained that this property is protected by the Island Territorial Plan (PTI) and in the municipal subsidiary regulations, therefore this installation of 22 hectares “It would destroy the pine, oak and shrub forest.”

In this sense, they considered it “necessary” to protect such an ecosystem in the Majorca’s plazabecause this area “is increasingly fragmented” and with “more housing”, these forest areas are therefore “increasingly rare”.
“What the City Hall is asking is that the administrations establish a regulation to prevent this from happening at the end of a proposal from the companies, therefore the Government and the Council of Mallorca “They need to come up with a master plan,” Verd said.
The intention is that there will be a “proliferation” of these photovoltaic parks “without knowing clearly where they can be built”, which, from their point of view, is “necessary” for the “legal security of investors and the Balearic Islands”.
Verd acknowledged that even though we need to move towards an economy committed to renewable energiesThis must be done in a “more orderly” manner and “does not affect such a valuable asset as the territory.”

For his part, Rigo stressed that this project “surprised” the residents of Sencelles because it was proposed on a forest while “there are degraded lands, industrial zones, car parks or roofs of municipal buildings, which the Town Hall proposed”.
“It cannot be that the most fertile agricultural lands or forests are the first thing they touch, when there is another way to do it,” defended the representative of Volem Sencelles.
Since their formation, they claim to be making an “effort” to “democratize” the process of implementing renewable energies, with the promotion of self-consumption and energy communities, so that “everyone can benefit and not just the energy multinationals.”
At the same time, the PP representative in the municipality also highlighted the “visual impact” and the distance that the cabling needed to transfer energy from the photovoltaic plant to the Sencelles power station would have to travel, an infrastructure that would cross the border, the population center and other public roads.
For these reasons, the City Council is demanding a moratorium on the processing of these projects in rural areas until a “coherent” territorial planning is developed, which “gives priority to degraded and industrial areas” to guarantee a “fair and decentralized energy transition.”
