The Animalist Party with the Environment (PACMA) has publicly denounced the death of a bull during a bullfight during the festivities of Liétor (Albacete). The events occurred this Saturday, August 24, when the animal, visibly exhausted and frightened, was allegedly dragged with a rope and hit with an electrified rod to finish the journey.
The political party published on its YouTube account images provided by the participants, who stated that “the mayor of the municipality, Antonio García, would have participated in the confinement and even the alleged harassment of the animal”, a version that elDiarioclm.es could not contrast with the City Council of Albacete. For the moment, the mayor has not given his version of events.
PACMA announced that it was studying legal measures due to the crudeness of the images received and the fatal outcome of the bull. In the published video, one of the participants even declares, with the animal lying on the ground: “If it has to be killed, kill it now.”
Javier Luna, national president of the Animalist Party, criticized the Liétor City Council for “allowing and encouraging atrocities.” According to him, “what happened in Liétor has no justification or forgiveness, it is shameful and degrading for the rest of Spain to know that it is legal and that they will look for any legal loophole to claim that the animal died for any reason other than “It was the extreme abuse to which it was subjected.”
The Animalist Party will hold its annual “Mission Abolition” demonstration on September 21 at the Las Ventas bullring in Madrid, aiming to unite the elimination of all bullfighting celebrations that take place in our country.

Podemos Animal Rights also expressed its “deepest indignation and rejection of the tragic event that occurred in the municipality of Liétor, where a bull lost its life in a cruel and totally unjustified manner due to electrocution.”
For the purple formation, it is “absolutely unacceptable and surprising that, according to the testimonies and available elements, the mayor of Liétor himself was present during these events.”
They point out that this act is not only “a clear example of animal abuse” but also represents “a flagrant violation” of the laws that protect animals in Castilla-La Mancha. They recall that Law 7/1990, of December 28, on the protection of animals in the autonomous community is “clear” in its prohibition of the use of cruel methods that cause unnecessary suffering to animals.
Its articles establish that it is prohibited to “mistreat or physically attack animals, subjecting them to any practice likely to cause them unjustified suffering or harm.” The use of power tools against animals, except in justified cases and under veterinary supervision, is an illegal and unethical practice.
They called it “alarming that a public figure, who must ensure respect for the law and the well-being of his community, should be involved in such a despicable act,” referring to the mayor.
From Podemos Animal Rights, they demand an “exhaustive and impartial” investigation into the facts and that “the law be applied with all its severity” because “the death of this bull cannot go unpunished.” They also consider it “essential” that responsibilities be established and that measures be adopted “to prevent such barbaric acts from happening again in Castilla-La Mancha.”
On the other hand, they call on citizens “that these acts of cruelty are not normalized and that together we continue to fight for a more just and compassionate society towards the living beings that inhabit it. “We cannot tolerate that those who should be the guarantors of public order act outside the regulations that protect the most vulnerable.”
