This Tuesday, Emiliano García-Page called on the institutions to get to work, once the current emergency caused by DANA is overcome, in the “harmonization” of the common response that the different administrations must provide in the event of new natural disasters.
In the middle of the political and media confrontation around the management of DANA that the Valencian Generalitat and the government of Pedro Sánchez are carrying out in Valencia, the president of Castilla-La Mancha announced that will present to the State a “clear agenda” to improve institutional collaboration in emergency cases.
“After 45 years of administrative decentralization, it is perhaps reasonable to think about the different management aspects that it would be good to harmonize“, Page reflected during his speech at an event organized this Tuesday in Toledo, within the framework of the signing of agreements with the universities of Castilla-La Mancha and Alcalá.
The socialist leader of Castile-La Mancha stressed that his proposal is based on collaboration and not on confrontation, because he considers it essential to establish an “agenda of harmonization proposals, without ideological conflict between the State and the autonomous communities“.
In addition, he positively valued the “reasonable coordination” between the Spanish Government and the Community Council in the management of the DANA of Castile-La Mancha, affirming that “There has been no discussion or doubt” between the two administrations when it comes to meeting the needs of cities like Mira (Cuenca) and Letur (Albacete)where seven people died and millions in property damage were caused as a result of flooding.
Independent authority
Page’s proposal comes after he defended at a breakfast briefing last week the need to create an independent authority to manage natural disasters in Spain.
According to the president of Castile-La Mancha, said the authority should act with “zero political interference” and lead decisions effectively, avoiding the type of confrontation that occurred in Valencia after the floods.
“The only political calculation in these cases is not to make calculations”then underlined Page, who criticized the “political calculations” which he considers “crooked” in this type of situation.
On the other hand, the regional president announced that, as expected, this Wednesday the boys and girls of Letur will return to their educational center after being temporarily transferred to the Socovos school. Likewise, he emphasized that minors will benefit from “psychological support” facing “a situation so unfair for his age”.
