The center is called Jeremy Colller for animal awareness, and the cost of its establishment is 4 million pounds. His activity will officially begin on September 30 with his headquarters at the London College of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and includes researchers from several specialties.
Among the most outstanding ambitious projects of the Center is a scientific project aimed at studying how artificial intelligence is used to help people “speak” with their pets, in studying potential problems and risks, as well as establish standards to ensure the moral and responsible use of this sensitive technology.
Professor Jonathan Persh, the director of the center, said in a statement by Guardian newspaper: “We tend to abandon human functions at our pets, and with the development of artificial intelligence, we can see completely new methods of communicating with them. But the danger is that these tools can generate false answers that satisfy the user instead of based on reality. ”
He added: “The use of these technologies in caring for animals without control or accurate scientific understanding, which can lead to catastrophic results. Therefore, we need to extremely develop organizational and moral framework in order to ensure the safety of their use, especially in the absence of some kind of real organization of this area today. ”
The new center seeks to formulate a global moral leadership in cooperation with NGOs for legalization and directions of future research related to animal awareness and the influence of artificial intelligence on them.
For his part, Professor Christina Andrews, a member of the Council of the Trustees of the Center, said that this project can open unprecedented horizons to understand the nature of human self -study.
She explained: “We still do not know at all about what makes a person be aware, or why consciousness appears in some creatures and is absent in others. But scientific history proves that the study of the simplest creatures is often the key to understanding complex phenomena – as happened in genetics and medicine. ”
As for the researcher of Jeff Sibu, the director of the Environmental and Animals Center for the University of New York, he called this initiative “necessary and urgent”, noting that the world greatly ignores the problems of sensation and well -being in animals.
