Parliament to debate Le Senne’s dismissal on Tuesday

The extraordinary plenary session of Parliament will debate this Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. the revocation of the president of the Balearic Chamber, Gabriel Le Senne (Vox), who will not chair the plenary session. The motion, presented by opposition groups last June after the incident involving Le Senne, who tore up a photo of Aurore Picornell, Majorcan Passionflower, Since then, she has become an idol of left-wing parties.

The call for the extraordinary plenary session was unanimously approved by the Permanent Deputation on 7 August, despite the opposition’s protests regarding the date, since the plenary session takes place two and a half months after the presentation of the referral document and a week before the special session begins.

The PP, for its part, has not confirmed whether or not it would support Le Senne’s dismissal, stressing that “this will be decided in due time”. The motion needs the PP’s yes vote – an abstention would not be enough – to move forward.

Similarly, the spokesperson for the Executive, Antoine Costastressed last Friday that the government is not asking for the “cessation” of Le Senne as such, but maintains that, for “consistency”, it should itself resign when Vox broke the pact in the Balearics.

Let us recall that in the middle of processing the motion, the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascalannounced that his party was leaving coalition governments with the PP in several autonomous communities and that it was withdrawing its parliamentary support from the Balearic Islands. The following day, the President of the Government, Marga ProhensAt a press conference he said that “We would not understand” if Le Senne remained in office since this was the result of the investiture agreement.

In the following weeks, the PP changed its discourse and stopped demanding Le Senne’s resignation from the presidency of Parliament.

The President of the Chamber indicated during the Permanent Deputation that he did not intend to resign due to the episode of the photo of Aurora Picornell, showing himself to be “very calm” and willing to continue his work “as long as the plenary session wishes.”

Regarding the agreement between PP and Vox, he said that “the parties can understand each other and be reasonable.” “I think that the groups must speak, it does not concern me and, as I have always said, I am free to decide what the plenary considers,” declared.

The one who put forward his voting direction is the deputy Agustin Buades, who left the Vox parliamentary group last Friday in disagreement with the party leadership’s decision to unilaterally break the pact with the PP.

Regarding the proposal to remove Le Senne, he indicated that he would vote against, considering that Le Senne’s gesture of removing Picornell’s photo is “unfortunate” but “at no time is it a hate crime”. However, he considered that what is “coherent” is that Gabriel Le Senne is leaving the presidency of Parliament because the pact is broken.

This Tuesday at 10 am the meeting of the spokespersons will take place and, afterwards, the debate and the vote will take place in plenary session chaired by the Vice-President of the Parliament, Mauricio Rovira (PP). The Senne, for its part, will occupy one of the seats reserved for members of the Bureau.
