Parliamentary elections are held in Lithuania – Oxu.az

In Lithuania, the first round of the upcoming elections to the Seimas (single-chamber parliament) is being held.

Oku.Az TASS reports that nearly two thousand polling stations operate in the country.

The second round will be held on October 27 in single-mandate constituencies where the winner has not been determined. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will go to the second round.

1,740 candidates, representatives of 16 political parties and three party coalitions, compete in the elections for 141 deputy mandates. In multi-mandate constituencies, parties must exceed the five percent threshold to enter the Seym and create a faction there.

According to the results of experts and public opinion polls, among the three main favorites are the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the ruling conservative party “Union of the Fatherland”, the Lithuanian Christian Democrats, and the newcomer to the parliamentary elections , the “Dawn in the Neman political party.

A citizen over 25 years old who is a permanent resident of Lithuania can become a parliamentarian. There is no upper age limit.

Preliminary voting results are usually known on Monday night.
