Pashinyan government ready to forget Armenian genocide – EADaily, October 31, 2024 – Politics News, Caucasus News

International recognition of the Armenian genocide is not on the list of priority tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, said the head of the department, Ararat Mirzoyan, during the discussion of the draft budget for 2025 in the financial and budgetary commission of parliament.

“As for international recognition of the Armenian genocide, as can be assumed from the fact that I did not touch on this issue when listing our priorities, this is not our first priority. The question of studying the tragic pages of our history, investigating the Armenian genocide or making the issue the N1 priority is definitely not the agenda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.” – emphasized Mirzoyan (quote from Sputnik Armenia).

The list of priority tasks, according to the diplomat, includes improving relations and signing a peace treaty with Baku, carrying out delimitation and unblocking communications.

Meanwhile, the issue of Armenia’s rejection of the policy of international recognition of the Armenian genocide is one of Ankara’s preconditions for regulating relations with Yerevan.

In December 2021, Yerevan and Ankara appointed special representatives for negotiations on the normalization of relations. An agreement was reached in Vienna in July 2022 to open the border to third-country nationals and begin direct air cargo transportation, but these issues remain unresolved.

At the meeting of special representatives of Armenia and Türkiye Ruben Rubinyan AND Serdar Kilych The possibility of reestablishing the Ahurik-Akyaka rail border crossing was also discussed in July.

The Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire is the first genocide of the 20th century. Armenians remember the victims of the tragedy every year on April 24. Türkiye has traditionally rejected accusations of mass extermination of more than 1.5 million Armenians. The fact of the Armenian genocide is recognized by many states and several authoritative international organizations.

In principle, few people were surprised by such revelations from the head of Armenia’s diplomacy, because the country’s authorities are constantly handing over bastion after bastion of the country’s sovereignty, trying to erase entire pages of the state’s history.

Now Pashinyan’s ministers and himself are ready to forget the fact of the genocide, so that Ankara and Baku will not be angry. We are waiting to see how the Armenian people will react to such blasphemy, but for now some comments remain on social media.

CT “Armenian Vendetta”: “In fact, the Turkish narrative about the work of historians is now officially disseminated by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Former employee of the Armenian Genocide Institute-Museum and now head of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was once accused of working for the Turkish intelligence services. Apparently, the best moment of Turkish agents in Armenia has arrived. Who else will doubt this now?

TC “Arman Abovyan”: “Urgently. Well, something happened that we were literally shouting about for all these six years and which until today the velvet authorities of Armenia have actively denied. Yerevan, in accordance with Turkey’s long-term demand, decided to eliminate the issue of genocide Armenian (from the political and diplomatic agenda of the Republic of Armenia. That is, one of the most fundamental and main directions of Armenian foreign policy. was thrown into the Turkish cesspool. We note that the Republic of Armenia is already, in fact, a continuation of the Turkish policy of political leveling of the importance of the Armenian genocide.

What’s next?

Dismantle the Armenian Genocide Memorial?

Armenia’s current authorities compete fiercely with Azerbaijan to see who is more loyal to Turkey in terms of participation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and taking the lead role, says secretary of the “I Have Honor” faction in the National Assembly Tigran Abrahamyan (quote from VERELQ):

“The government can present its unprecedented efforts to deeply and broadly engage Turkey in regional processes and secure its role as first fiddle as the success of the year or the outcome of the budget exercise. This is the only factor in which the current ruler has surpassed Ilham Aliyev and was ahead of all potential competitors in flirting with Türkiye.

In due time, when Serzh Sargsyan began the process of “football diplomacy”, the points of view in terms of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey were different, but even the main critics of this process claimed that, as a result of Armenia’s soft and flexible policy, the Ankara’s official efforts to intervene in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations failed.”
