Pashinyan reported progress in negotiations with Azerbaijan

There are positive developments in the negotiations between Yerevan and Baku. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, on November 22.

“There are some positive developments in the negotiations with Azerbaijan and we do not want to assume that Azerbaijan, by raising the issue of changing the Constitution of Armenia, is trying to lead the negotiations to a dead end.” — he said in an interview with the Armenian Public Television Company.

Pashinyan clarified that Armenia is doing everything possible to sign a peace agreement by the end of 2024.

He noted that Armenia is ready to abandon international claims against Azerbaijan on a reciprocal basis, provided that the states sign a peace agreement. Pashinyan also added that Armenia made a proposal to Azerbaijan to cancel the actions of the EU civil mission in the areas to be demarcated.

In addition, the societies of the two states, according to the Prime Minister, must recognize the countries within the borders of the USSR and begin to carefully develop relations, including the establishment of economic ties.

“Armenia and Azerbaijan must not only recognize de jure, but also de facto, on the socio-psychological level and at all levels, that Soviet Azerbaijan on its territory is an independent Azerbaijan, and Soviet Armenia is an independent Armenia. The parties must fix this reality, leave each other alone politically, not put pressure on each other and start by opening communications and establishing economic ties. “With great care” – said Pashinyan.

As the Prime Minister of Armenia indicated, these cautious processes will subsequently intensify and the countries of the South Caucasus may have common interests. This, according to Pashinyan, is the essence of the strategic agreement that he previously proposed to Baku, Izvestia clarifies.
