Pedro Sánchez appears in Congress to report on the management of DANA

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appears this Wednesday at the Congress of Deputies, at his own request, to explain the management of the Executive in relation to the effects of DANA. On November 18, the government registered in the Lower House the request for Sánchez’s appearance for this Wednesday, where he will hold his first face-to-face meeting with the opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on this subject.

The two leaders did not speak this last month and it was the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, who served as interlocutor to the parliamentary groups to inform them of the extent of the disaster and ask them to support the seat of Parliament two aid decrees for an amount of around 14 billion euros approved by the Council of Ministers.

Last week, the Lower House validated the first package of this aid worth 10.6 billion euros with the vote in favor of all parliamentary groups, except Vox. Government sources insist that The Director General will address once again this Wednesday to all the forces present to validate this second package.

Thus, Sánchez should defend the actions of his executive and emphasize that those affected can count on all state resources. “Valencians must know that we will continue to help them even when the media goes out,” he said Tuesday during the 44th Confederal Congress of the UGT. Furthermore, the Government recalls that the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, appeared in Congress to report on the management of DANA; while the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, appeared in the Senate and last week the Third Vice President of the Government and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, did so until this Monday in both bedrooms.

The PP will ask questions about Aldama

The PP, for its part, encouraged Sánchez to devote part of his appearance to explaining his “relationship” with the alleged plot leader of the Koldo affairVíctor de Aldama, and “all the corruption that surrounds him”. The leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will devote a few minutes of his speech to the Koldo case to try to get the head of the Executive to answer some of his questions.

The main opposition party wants to know, basically, if Sánchez has already received Aldama in La Moncloa. How many times he met with him and what topics they discussed, a question that extends to his wife, Begoña Gómez.

Concerning DANA, Feijóo will attack Sánchez for not declaring a national emergency and taking the reins of crisis managementeliminating the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, from the decision-making process. In fact, he has already called the move a “resignation from office.” He will also tackle the management of Teresa Ribera as Minister of Ecological Transition and, therefore, responsible for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar (CHJ), both organizations to which the Generalitat Valenciana and the PP tried to shift responsibility for the lack of foresight and the slow response to the disaster.
