The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sanchezsaid this Saturday, during his speech to the Federal Committee, to the opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as a “hero” of Venezuela that Spain “will not abandon” and defended the integrity of activists, journalists or political leaders “wherever they are.”
During his speech, Sánchez spoke about foreign policy, advocating for “tools to address and protect peace” and “the drama suffered by thousands of migrants,” while insisting on the defense of democracy against hoaxes and “intervention campaigns.”
The PSOE leader valued “the integrity of activists, journalists and political leaders wherever they are”, whether in Russia, Palestine or Venezuela, where, as he said, there are “leaders” like Edmundo González, who He is “a hero that Spain will not abandon”in the first position of the Spanish government because of what happened in Venezuela after the elections.
Meanwhile, the tense situation in the Latin American country continues to worsen, even more so after a Venezuelan court ruled on Monday an arrest warrant against Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia after accepting the public prosecutor’s request against the opponent.
Urrutia’s whereabouts are unknown, having left his usual residence on August 1, while his legal defense has been handed over to the prosecution. a document that calls for respect for “the presumption of innocence” and “procedural guarantees” who – he assures – “were not present” in the three summons issued by the institution that investigates anti-Chavistas.
Maduro, for his part, justified this arrest order by saying: “unacceptable” that González “does not recognize the laws”, in reference to his rejection of both the electoral results and the institutions controlled by Chavismo that approved these elections.
