The unscrupulous adventurer who governs this country decided one day to abandon writing his particular manual of resistance in the face of the “multiple” political adversities he had to overcome to get to where we are. That is to say this Sunday in Paiporta. The constant selfish ceremonial that surrounds and established it sometimes attempts to soften the evil ruse that serves as a compass for its so-called governance. It’s always the victim’s vocation. And this manual, already elevated to the rank of martyrology, lives on the bedside tables of a great army of synchronized opinion which is responsible for its disciplined propagation like infantry without discouragement. But if you want to have a useful dose of real resistance, you don’t have any more. We must devote a few minutes to the case of José Romero, the businessman from Torrecampo and Prasa, who was acquitted this week, after 17 years of prosecutions (yes, more than six thousand days… and nights) for the Astapa affair, another empty roar of politics and alleged corruption that exploded in the Malaysian volcano and dissolved like simple sugar in bitter coffee. We should one day explain in this country whether excesses and defects are good counterweights in the scales of Justice. The affair broke out just as the real estate bubble was beginning to burst and cornered a whole group of companies like that of Romero, one of the ten developers in the country. the country then – between the financial crisis and the reputational crisis of a media trial and with all its parsley: even Villarejo. The punishment had a boomerang effect. The son of the mason from little Torrecampo who laid the foundations of the construction company, took his file and went, bank by bank, door by door, to renegotiate the debt and look for light in the long tunnel of recession which devastated almost everything. Convincing with the word that shakes hands, the eternal discretion and formality of a career, now in the pillory. But when he managed to open one door, another closed behind him. The processing tag was an alert that was triggered at the last second in the central computer of the issuing bank, and from there to the borrowing bank and, of course, to the Treasury. And Pepe Romero, woven and unwoven like Penelope waiting for the day to come; under the smoke of an exhausted cigar and infinite patience. Granite. Thin out factories and structures, sacrifice employees, sell land, paintings or anything else; refinancing debts, bankrupting Prasa, mired in the next pandemic crisis, entangled in the regulatory, tax and planning tangle trying to gain momentum… Looking for supplies from the other side of the ocean… But always with the same compass: his word. And the unwavering loyalty of his family. More than six thousand two hundred days and nights. Serious illness as a side effect. Lots of saliva and toads swallowed. Lots of silence and time to throw in the towel and drain the water. A clear example that he who resists wins.
