APPLE TV+ – ON DEMAND – SERIES

The first images of the houseA stroll among the looms evokes a know-how from another era. Only the luxury escaped the move and the Ledu workshops are still in operation. A brand created ex nihilo for the needs of the Apple TV+ series, the Ledu house is nevertheless inscribed in the viewer’s imagination through a series of familiar details.

The idea for the series came from there, explains its producer Alex Berger, who was, among others, the one Office of Legends. “It was during the production of Desk, I was fascinated by the idea of a very fantasized environment and the question of how to evoke a world that everyone knows, but without really knowing it. »

Although the comparison is rather superficial, the series is reminiscent of Succession Broadly speaking, on the one hand for its depiction of the ultra-rich, a social category largely absent in French fiction, and on the other hand for its examination of family rivalries and feuds that are resolved through hostile takeover bids. “These are dramatic mechanisms that have been in place since Greek tragedy”Jose Caltagirone laughs (The fighters), co-creator of the series with Valentine Milville (The Legends Office).

Ironic and distant tone.

In the series, the Ledu family is divided into two clans. Not so much, the creators of the series insist. “This freedom forces us to be realisticsays Alex Berger. We had to make sure that people who are not interested in fashion were entertained and that people who are aware of fashion were not insulted by what they saw. »

“The challenge was more to create a brand from scratch and imagine a mythology for the Ledu house”adds Valentine Milville. As well as drawing on a common culture of French haute couture, the writers wanted to give the series a particular tone, slightly ironic and detached. “When we are French and we think of fashion, we inevitably think of Loïc Prigentduck. This slightly mocking tone is the spice of fashion. »
