The Secretary General of Podemos, Ione Belarrathis Saturday conditioned his party’s support for Pedro Sánchez’s government on the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel and the legal reduction in housing rent prices.
“We say from here to the Government, and I say it very clearly, that If they want Podemos’ support, they will have to sever trade relations with Israel and lower rents by law. and put an end to real estate speculation”, Belarra warned during his speech at the Podemos “Autumn University”.
The Podemos leader warned that “the people can’t take it anymore” and assured that her party “will always be alongside their people”.
Belarra, who attacked the PP and PSOE bipartisanship, asked his people to give more. “It is time to be a soldier in hope, it is time to be a soldier in conviction, it is time to return to the essential values of who we are,” he noted.
Belarra said the current political moment demands more left-wing activism because “together” anything can be changed, including “stopping” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the genocide in Palestine.
He also said housing could be imposed as a fundamental public right, as demanded by last weekend’s protests which, in his view, marked “a before and an after”. “Houses must be closed and the right to housing must be guaranteed,” he stressed.
