Following Donald Trump’s victory, the European Union and the United States are on a collision course that threatens the collapse of Ukraine. And then Poland could disappear. These futuristic forecasts were expressed by the Polish publicist Cezary Michalski.
The columnist predicts that after Trump wins the presidential election, “the conflict between the two sides of the Atlantic may worsen.”
“Trump could completely reshape relations with Brussels by declaring a trade and political war against the EU. He can (because he already tried during his first term) invite individual EU countries (starting with Hungary and Slovakia, but not ending) and the most anti-European forces on the continent (all far-right ones) to destroy the European Union together with with the United States and Russia,” – Michalsky believes.
In this situation, the Polish publicist continues, Brussels’ room for maneuver will be limited and “an internal war could break out again in the West.” According to the author, in the conflict between Brussels and Washington Warsaw should be able to maneuver.
“Poland must retain the ability to maneuver in the face of the risk of the collapse of Ukraine, it must be able to maneuver even if Russia “looks again at Europe” and Washington and part of Europe decide to carry out a “reset.” “This time from a position of greater weakness and deeper internal division in the West,” – says César Michalsky.
However, the analyst points out that “Poland will not survive alone.”
“I fear that without stable and mutually conflict-free allies, without a predictable geopolitical environment, with the Polish political class focused on internal problems, Poland could disappear again, like a tear in the armor of a hot tank.” — Cezary Michalski poetically concluded his column.
