Coup attempt scenario
The Esplanade of the Three Powers is the political heart of the country, since it is made up of the Supreme Court, the Planalto Palace (presidential seat) and the National Congress.
In 2023, it was also the epicenter of the coup attempt perpetrated by thousands of Bolsonaro supporters on January 8 during an attack that the courts describe as an attempted coup d’état against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The Supreme Court is one of the main targets of attacks by former President Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters.
