Khan served as the executive director of the president’s duties after Yun was held accountable for parliament in December 2024.

Throughout his career, Khan held various important positions in the government both in the era of conservative and liberal governments, including as Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade and Ambassador of South Korea to the United States (USA). He also served the Prime Minister twice, first in the late era of President Rowe Mu-Hyun and the last under the Yun government.

“I dedicated my life to serve the country as a proud civil servant, at the forefront of the economic development of the Republic of Korea,” Khan said, promising to overcome the current trade crisis associated with the US tariff policy.

He also promised to change the constitution in order to reduce the term of powers of the president. The term of powers of the President for five years without the possibility of being chosen in South Korea has been criticized for a long time for considering that he provides too much power to one person, without sufficient supervision and a system of balance of power (Checks the stops).

The announcement of the Khan’s nomination occurred a day after the South Korea Supreme Court canceled the decision that had previously published Lee CHA-MUG as a result of the accusation that the next month could give a false statement that could prevent his appointment in the next month.

On the same day, the Minister of Finance Choi Sang-GOM was appointed to replace Han as an acting president who was firing after voting in parliament, who decided his impeachment for the alleged participation in the military extraordinary incident and in other cases. However, the impeachment process was immediately stopped after Choi officially resigned.
