Khan served as the executive director of the president’s duties after Yun was held accountable for parliament in December 2024.
Throughout his career, Khan held various important positions in the government both in the era of conservative and liberal governments, including as Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade and Ambassador of South Korea to the United States (USA). He also served the Prime Minister twice, first in the late era of President Rowe Mu-Hyun and the last under the Yun government.
“I dedicated my life to serve the country as a proud civil servant, at the forefront of the economic development of the Republic of Korea,” Khan said, promising to overcome the current trade crisis associated with the US tariff policy.
He also promised to change the constitution in order to reduce the term of powers of the president.
