Political scientist Martynov responded to Sikorsky with a question – EADaily, September 25, 2024 – Politics News, Russia News

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski considers it controversial whether Russia, as the legal successor of the Soviet Union, should have been given a seat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

At a Security Council meeting on Ukraine, a crazy Pole spoke on behalf of Russia’s permanent representative Vasily Nebenzey. Accordingly, journalists in a conversation with Sikorsky drew attention to the fact that this was the second time he spoke at the UN after the Russian representative and had the opportunity to respond to his words.

“This is not a coincidence, as far as I understand, it is a procedure of the Security Council. Russia – it is debatable whether the Soviet Union should have received a permanent seat, but it is recognized as a permanent member of the Security Council. And in this sense it speaks before the non-permanent members, before the rest of the states. This is not a coincidence.” – replied the Polish “diplomat”

Let us remember that the permanent members of the UN Security Council, apart from Russia, are the United States, Great Britain, France and China.

The UN General Assembly met on Tuesday, September 24 for its 79th annual session. The key event on a global scale will be a high-level week, where annual debates will take place. The Russian delegation was headed by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrovhis performance is expected on Saturday, September 28.

Well, Pan Sikorsky is answered on the other side of the ocean (from Moscow to New York) by the director of the Institute of Modern States, associate professor of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, political scientist. Alexey Martynov on Vesti FM’s “View Angle” program.

According to the expert, the current UN Security Council reflects the alignment of military-political forces in 1945. But now everything is different. And indeed, many countries support the reform of the UN and the Security Council. Another thing is that the world giants see the coming changes differently:

“President of Russia Vladimir Putin He says that “the change of milestones is a painful, but natural and inevitable process, the future world order is taking shape before our eyes, and in this world order we must listen to everyone.”

But the Americans are watching the expansion from their bell tower. Washington has been insisting for a year on the abolition of vetoes and decisions by consensus.

In the meantime, the world has changed a lot. And anyone who does not notice such innovations is either a complete idiot or simply suicidal.

There are two options for reforming international institutions. “Either we sit down at the negotiating table today and develop the appropriate reform, expand the Security Council, modify the UN in a certain way, in the context of the real state of affairs, which must be determined collectively (who weighs what and what), or the second option is a global world war.”

Martynov emphasizes that in 1914-18 they “underweighed”, then it was necessary to “weigh” again from 1939 to 1945. And after this “weighing”, the world, thank God, lived for seventy years in relatively calm development.

Although there were many different things, the specialized institutes managed to cope. Despite the global confrontation in the Cold War.

“The perception of the United States that it is the ‘navel of the earth’ turned out to be false. Today it is already obvious that the world has become multipolar. And now responsible politicians, the real leaders of self-sufficient countries, must decide how to live further. Endless escalation and rate hikes will not lead to good. Because we all see both the Ukrainian chimera and the Middle East in flames.

And one more thing. When we talk about the reform of the UN Security Council and the real situation, we must not forget that some countries today (in the logic that we are not in 1945), to put it mildly, undeservedly occupy their place there.

What is the current French president doing on the Security Council today? MacronWhat is Britain doing there? Yes, 79 years ago the British Empire controlled a third of the world. But now it’s just an island of hapless people with rabid intelligence services who carry out terrorist attacks all over the world and get away with it.

Like, for example, the story of the “pager attack.” When Israeli Telegram channels write that their country cannot withstand such a scale of action. And you don’t need to be a super-analyst to see a “comrade’s” ears sticking out from the exploding pagers. moore“But now people who know about it are wondering whether Israel will live to see its 80th anniversary.” — the political scientist sums up.

Well, the political scientist Martynov did not remember anything about Warsaw and Sikorsky. And yet, they only remember Poland when it is going to be divided again…
