“The liberation of Kalbajar without a fight is a political, military and economic victory for Azerbaijan.”
This was stated by political scientist Sultan Zahidov in his statement to the “Report”.
He recalled that the return of the Agdam, Lachin and Kalbajar regions to Azerbaijan without a fight is possible thanks to the statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 10, 2020:
“According to the declaration, Kalbajar should have been handed over to Azerbaijan on November 15. But Azerbaijan, based on the principles of humanism, extended the deadline by another 10 days at the request of the other party. Thus, the Armenians completely abandoned Kalbajar on November 25. November. Azerbaijan took these three districts without firing a single shot, liberated precisely as a result of the act of capitulation.
Of course, these events are a victory written in gold letters in the history of Azerbaijan. It played an important role for Azerbaijan, both economically and geopolitically. At the same time, Azerbaijan did not make sacrifices for the liberation of these three regions. This is one of the most important points.”
The expert stressed that Lachin and Kalbajar were important to ensure Armenia’s access to Karabakh. Those regions played the role of a corridor for Armenia. Therefore, as a result of the liberation of these two regions, Azerbaijan’s strategic advantage increased even further.
“From the economic context, let me say that any war requires material and technical resources. Therefore, the liberation of three districts without fighting ensured the economic advantage of Azerbaijan and additional expenses were avoided. Thus, Azerbaijan also implemented two resolutions of the UN Council – 822 and implemented resolution 852. I recalled that the UN Security Council had adopted both resolutions in 1993 on the occupation of Kalbajar and Aghdam Durante. “Thirty years, these resolutions were not implemented in any way,” the political scientist emphasized.
Please note that the president Ilham Aliyev According to the decree signed on July 31, 2023, Kalbajar City Day in Azerbaijan is celebrated every year on November 25.
