Pope Leo XIV asks for compassion for the “genuine fraternity” without walls or oppression

He Pope Leo XIV He performed compassion as a “path” to the “genuine brotherhood“Without walls and close to the problems of others, on his first public mass in the days of rest in the city of Castel Gandolfo.

“Seeing without passing by, stopping our busy races, allowing the life of another, whoever, with their needs and suffering, breaks my heart. This makes us perform with each other, generates a real fraternity, blows walls and fences, he said during his sermon.

The pontiff celebrated his first public mass in this city near Rome, where in the summer the potatoes traditionally rested for the fact that it was more fresh, ceasing to this custom after almost thirteen years of the absence of his predecessor Francisco.

The Eucharist occurred in the small church of San -Tomaso da Villanov, up to several people, and Leo XIV focused his sermon in compassion, inspired by parables about the “good Samaritan.”

“This story continues to challenge us today, challenges our lives, shakes the calmness of our numbered or abstract conscience and causes us from the risk of religion, ordered in the external observance of the law, but cannot feel and act with the same compassionate entry of God,” he said.

In this sense, he said that in the modern world there are two ways to look at this: “You can see and pass or see and feel compassion”, with “sympathy”, which allows us to understand “another”.

Thus, Agustino -Pontif argued that “today this revolution of love” and compassion is necessary.

First of all, in order to contact “everyone who plunges into evil, suffering and poverty”, “so many people are stunned by difficulties or injuries from the circumstances of life,” or everyone who “collapses until they touch each other”.

But also “so many despised, deceived and destroyed people, victims of repressive political systems, the economy that forces them to poverty, the war that kills their dreams and their lives.”

“What are we doing? We see and pass by, or do we allow ourselves to be pierced by heart, like a Samaritan? Sometimes we compress ourselves only with the fulfillment of our duty, or we consider our neighbor only to the one to whom it is from our circle, which he thinks, as we, to which he has the same nationality or religion, ”he criticized.

During the Mass, which was attended by some neighbors and local authorities, the pontiff received some presence from believers, such as flowers or ball, winking his well -known passion for sports.

Leo XIV will relax in this city on the shores of Lake Albano, on the vill of papal property in Barberini – the palace was transformed into the Francisco Museum – until July 20, and then return on weekends on August 15.
