Portugal: in red alarm for the risk of fires in five regions

Five districts in the northern part of the country will be in red notification on Monday and Tuesday, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), warning of extreme risk.

The areas of Brahansa, Porto, Villa Real, Viana to Castello and Braga will be in red notification from 06:00 on Monday to 18:00 on Tuesday, with the expected maximum temperatures above 40º.

Between 9:00 today on Sunday and 6:00 on Monday, IPMA put the same areas in an orange alarm, as well as almost the entire country – with the exception of Algarve, which has a yellow warning.

“From the deterioration of meteorological forecasts, which indicate a significant risk of fires, the government decided to announce how the Minister of the Interior Maria Lussa announced on Saturday on Saturday.

“This decision is the result of continuing very high temperatures, low humidity levels and the need to take precautions and specific measures to solve the risk of fire at most of the mainland,” he explained.

The evacuation of the nursing home

On Sunday, forest fires continued with unad -hearted tension in the country: at 7.30 in the morning there were about 30 active fronts, and more than 1,400 firefighters worked.

Among the most important fires are three fronts in the real area of the Vila (San Siberia, Trading and Sirarerelehos), in Ponte da Bars, which is active for more than a week, and in Celorico de Basto.

The fire to San Sibera, which began early on Saturday, spread and led to the evacuation of the nursing home in a dignity -martino -e -ante for precaution.

A fire in Ponte da Barca is raging for the second week, but there are no villages in danger.

Portugal and Spain have already suffered from many forest fires in recent days.

According to the European Forestry Information System (EFFIS), more than 257,000 acres were burned in Portugal.

On the other side of the border, in the Spanish region of Galicia (north -west), firefighters are fighting with a flame in the VillarDevos community.
