“Developments” are still possible, says Anne Genetet. The new minister comments, in an interview with Sunday’s Tribune on October 12, that there could be changes during the “parliamentary debate” on the national education budget for 2025, where the announced elimination of 4,000 positions outraged the unions.
“The parliamentary debate has not started yet, there may still be news! »observes the minister, claiming to have “we fight to increase the school’s resources”.
The announcement, on Thursday afternoon, by the Ministry of the elimination of 4,000 teaching positions by 2025, mainly in kindergarten and primary school (3,155 positions), scandalized the unions who denounced “a real sangria” and a “public school baudillo”.
The left also questions this measure, such as the “rebel” leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who sees it as a “organization of ignorance”.
“School is still the priority”
“With school demographics falling, there will be an average of 21.4 students per class in our public schools at the start of the 2025 school year: this is the lowest number of students per class since we measured it”justifies Anne Genetet.
The budget also foresees the creation of 2,000 additional AESH places (accompaniment of students with disabilities). With a negative balance of about 2,000 positions, national education represents the majority of job cuts for state officials and their operators (2,201 in total) in the 2025 state budget.
The national education budget for 2025 amounts to 63 billion euros, generally stable compared to that approved a year ago for 2024.
The minister assures that “The school continues to be the priority of this government and the first budget of the nation”.
