Power outages increase in the Afghan capital

Residents in different areas of Kabul are complaining about increasing power outages and calling on the interim government to solve the problem. Electricity in the Afghan capital is on only 5 to 6 hours a day, TOLOnews reports.

Normally, the power goes out between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm Afghans complain that the country’s dire economic situation has made life difficult for many families, but that enough electricity could alleviate some of the problems.

“Firewood and charcoal are expensive. “It would be good if the authorities provided 24-hour power supply so that we could keep our homes warm.” said Fawad, a Kabul resident.

“People cannot afford to buy firewood and charcoal. “We hope the government has taken care of the problems with electricity.” said Fahim, another Kabul resident.

Representatives of the state energy company Breshna Company attribute the main cause of the outages to maintenance work on power lines in the Afghan capital. However, no one gives guarantees that there will not be blackouts.
