Powerful strikes against targets in Syria: media reports new details

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Israeli air force carried out a series of massive strikes against targets in Syria, beginning with the attack late on September 8.

Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.

The strikes lasted for about three hours and consisted of four waves. Arab media described these attacks as one of the most powerful in recent years. Partial confirmation of the attacks was received from the Syrian state news agency SANA.

In the first two waves, strikes were carried out against several targets in Damascus, Masyaf, Tartus and Homs. Among the targets hit were military-industrial enterprises, weapons depots in Wadi al-Uyun, Masyaf and Salamiya, as well as a convoy of military equipment and drones in the Tartus area.

The bombing of a research centre in Masyaf triggered at least six explosions, destroyed military buildings and installations and started fires in the surrounding area.

In southwestern Hama province, bases housing Iranian militias and weapons development specialists were attacked. The fourth wave of airstrikes hit a target in the Khair al-Abbas area, as well as a target in the Mediterranean Sea near Baniyas.

At least seven people have been confirmed dead so far. There are reports of military personnel being killed.

Some civilians are believed to have been killed or injured as a result of Syrian air defence attempts to repel the attack, as several Syrian rockets fell on residential areas. According to SOHR, one of the missiles fell on the village of Samaka in the Khirbet al-Muazza area, the other on the Al-Majd suburb of Tartus.

Video footage posted online reportedly showed secondary explosions and missile launches after the initial blasts, indicating that military depots had been hit. Syrian sources say that in addition to fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were also involved in the attack.

They also report that Syrian air defense systems were able to shoot down some Israeli UAVs and missiles, but this is only partially confirmed as only two videos from the Tartus area are presented showing the interception, but the details are still unclear.

Unofficial sources associated with the Syrian regime described the Israeli attack as a “ring of fire” aimed at exhausting Syrian air defense systems and acknowledged that the power of the attack exceeded the capabilities of its defensive systems.

Earlier, Kursor reported on powerful strikes against targets in Syria.

According to media reports, the attacks targeted a research center that has links to the IRGC.
