Junts finally joined the PP, Vox and UPN to overturn in the plenary session of Congress the admission to the processing of the bill by the left partners of the PSOE aimed at modifying the law on urban leases and limiting seasonal and room rentals. With this vote, the Sánchez government adds a new defeat in Congress
Although the Catalans had announced that they would abstain, they finally decided to take a position against, so the vote ended with 172 votes in favour of the PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Bildu, PNV, Podemos, BNG, Canarian Coalition and José Luis Ábalos, former socialist deputy now integrated into the Mixed Group; and 178 votes against.
The rule in question consisted of a reform of the Urban Lease Law to assimilate temporary contracts to those of regular housing and thus discourage their use, to avoid fraud that would allow the housing law to be circumvented or prices to be continually increased.
To provide greater guarantees, the proposal includes seasonal contracts in article two of the law, which regulates the rental of habitual residence and guarantees greater protection of rentals.
Another element to highlight in the legal reform proposed by the groups is a new article 9a in the law on urban leases so that the seasonal contract cannot exceed six months.
If six months have elapsed or if more than two consecutive contracts are linked, it will be a habitual residence rental contract, and all the precepts provided for such contracts will apply.
On the other hand, the proposal provided that in temporary contracts, the tenant could terminate the rental contract, once at least one month had passed since its formalization, by informing the lessor ten days in advance, without in any case giving the right to compensation.
