PP demands investigation into burning of Mazón image and Spanish flag in Barcelona

The Popular Party has requested, through an illegal proposal, that the Public Prosecutor’s Office open an investigation into the burning of an image of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazonand a Spanish flag at an event organized by the pro-independence youth association Arran during the festivities in the Gràcia district of Barcelona on August 21.

In the parliamentary initiative presented to the Congress of DeputiesThe popular urge the government of Pedro Sánchez to explicitly condemn the burning of national insignia and the attacks against the identity and autonomy status of the Valencian Community, as well as against its highest representative, Carlos Mazón.

With the flag of Spain and the photo of Mazón, the organization linked to the CUP He placed a banner with the motto “From Salses to Guardamar and from Fraga to Maó, we are Catalan countries, whether you like it or not, Carlos Mazón”. According to the PP, the attacks in Barcelona, as well as the pacts with the independence movement and measures such as promoting an economic agreement, have allowed “the reappearance of a discourse that seeks to revive the political conflict between Catalonia and Spain”.

“This is not just an institutional crime against anyone who represents the citizens of the Valencian Community, but a direct aggression against its Statute of Autonomy, the identity and integrity of the region and of Spain as a whole,” the PP states in its non-law proposal.

In the same way, he refers to the constant attempt to integrate the Valencian Community “into a entelechy called Catalan countries”, which “also represents an attack on the identity of the 542 municipalities of the autonomy and their more than five million inhabitants”.

Crimes for misdemeanors and insults

For all these reasons, the facts denounced by the PP may be, in their opinion, constitutive of a crime for “crimes or insults against Spain, its autonomous communities and its symbols”. Thus, they maintain that “violence and Hatred of Catalan separatism“They will not divert them from the path of defending Valencian rights and interests.

The events occurred on August 21 during the festivities in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona, when members of Arran set fire to a photograph of the Alicante leader and posted the controversial moment on their social networks accompanied by the following sentence: “On Monday we wanted to send you some warmth from Vila de Gràcia, Catalan countries.

Far from being intimidated, Mazón responded on his networks and issued a warning to the separatists: “You can burn my face a million times and do whatever you want with me. The Valencian Community is respected and whoever does not do so will suffer all the consequences. “The sovereignist absurdities are coming to an end.”
