A letter on behalf of the President of Chad, Mohamed Idris Debi Itno, was read at the COP29 climate summit. The Head of State, who could not attend the summit due to natural disasters, thanked the organizers and participants for their support.
Report reports that the president’s letter was read by the representative of the government of this country at the high-level meeting held within the framework of COP29.
“2024 will remain in our collective memory as a year of unprecedented disasters. As a result of the floods, 119 of our 125 departments were destroyed, the disaster affected more than 1.9 million citizens, more than 217 thousand houses were destroyed, 432 hectares of agricultural land “Land was destroyed, 72,1,000 cattle were lost and 576 people died,” the letter said.
Chad is also actively working on its contribution to the fight against climate change by developing an ambitious action plan since 2017 and updating it in 2021. “We are confident that the COP29 summit focused on climate finance is a decisive moment for rebuilding the international financial architecture,” he said.
