Priests investigated for Russian aid – EADaily, October 4, 2024 – Politics news, Russian news

In Moldova, at least 20 priests of the Russian Orthodox Church are under investigation accused of receiving money from Russia. This was stated on the TV8 channel by the head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernauteanu.

According to him, they were allegedly paid up to 800 euros per month through an application of the Russian bank Promsvyazbank, which is under international sanctions and supported by the Republic of Moldova.

“It is no secret that at least 15 to 20 church ministers came to the attention of the police because they took advantage of these mechanisms and traveled to the Transnistria region (the PMR banking institutions work with the Russian payment system Mir, blocked in the Republic of Moldova) to withdraw funds from these accounts and cards”, – said the head of the State Inspection.

He added that in some cases the clergy of the Moldovan diocese allegedly kept the entire amount for personal use, while in others the money was distributed in whole or in part.

Previously, Cernăutseanu confirmed that his institution monitors Moldovan priests and has already “taken note” of some of them who speak critically about Moldova’s European integration and also express support for the opposition regime. Sandú politicians.

At the same time, Moldovan gendarmes do not see any violation in the fact that representatives of the Bessarabian metropolis openly incite parishioners to join the European Union, where they supposedly “preserve true Christian values.” The Romanian diocese is targeting Moldovan priests who have been disciplined for inappropriate behavior and immoral crimes, including those who “blessed” LGBT people*. They deceive them in exchange for money, for which Bucharest officially allocates 2 million euros a year.

In Romania, the Russian Orthodox Church, traditional in Moldova, is called a “self-proclaimed occupation structure”, and its ministers are called “agents of the Russian special services” who must be fought against.

As reported EADaily Moldovan authorities claim that Russian Promsvyazbank provides financing to opposition bloc supporters Ilana Shora “Victoria”, who are accused of anti-state activities. Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian acted even simpler: he called Russian Orthodoxy in the country part of a hybrid war, and a member of parliament from the ruling presidential party “Action and Solidarity” Vasile Shoimaru he promised to address it by following the example of neo-Nazi Ukraine.
