Pro-Iran militias are on high alert: analyst

At night, explosions were heard near the Syrian-Lebanese border. It is believed to have been an attack on Iranian militia targets in Deir ez-Zor, Syria.

Rami Abdulrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights clarified the details of the incident.

In an interview with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hadath channel, he said: “There were five attacks. They targeted headquarters and air defense systems in Jabal al-Sarda or the al-Rabsh area. These facilities belong to the Security Corps. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and were destroyed.”

He added: “What appeared to be trucks or bases on the Iraq-Syria border, near Boukamal, were also attacked.”

The attacks caused secondary explosions due to the storage of weapons. In the city of Deir ez-Zor, Iranian radars and former Hezbollah bases were attacked.

“All the areas attacked belong to the Revolutionary Guard or their allies in Deir ez-Zor and Boukamal,” Abdulrahman explained.

He noted the increase in tension in the region. This came after the international coalition shot down a drone launched by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq towards the Koniko gas field.

“The international coalition has significantly increased the level of readiness at US bases in the region,” he said.

He also pointed out that this area, where the Iranian militias are located, is currently experiencing a high degree of tension. The militants are on high alert.

Recent movements at the border have attracted attention. “Two days ago, trucks entered and dispersed at the Iranian facilities,” Abdulrahman said.

He suggested the attacks could be aimed at disrupting the Tehran-Beirut highway. This route is essential for the flow of weapons from Iran to Lebanon.

Abdulrahman also mentioned personnel movements: “There is a movement of Hezbollah operatives into Lebanon. They are leaving third-level leaders to supervise Syrian and non-Syrian fighters in the area.”

He concluded: “In fact, there is a movement from Syria, not from Iraq. Iraqi and Lebanese Hezbollah agents have been moving towards the Syrian-Lebanese border for the last ten days.”
