PROBLEM facing taxi and bus drivers

To ensure that passengers can reach their apartments quickly and comfortably, bus lanes have been built on many streets and avenues in the capital, allowing for comfortable and unhindered movement.

But despite the presence of lanes, bus drivers do not use them.

Drivers said tree branches and garbage bins placed in bus lanes hamper the movement of buses:

“We have to get out of our lane.”

The competent authority, which built a bus lane at taxi stops, did not take into account that there is almost no bus traffic in that direction. Experts say that such cases are unacceptable and that the problem must be solved.

In this regard, Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) said that although a lane has been built on May 28th Street, the completion works in that area are still underway, so the taxi stand has been cancelled.

Regarding the removal of buses from the lane, AYNA’s statement was as follows:

“In the event of manoeuvres, turns and various obstacles, buses are forced to leave the lane reserved for them. In the absence of such situations, buses must drive on the organised lane. Work is underway with transporters in this regard. Educational lectures will be held on drivers’ compliance with passenger traffic rules.”
