Professor Togrul Ismayil: “Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan did not fall into the trap set by the United States.”

Two days ago, Antony Blinken and Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation. During the talks, the peace process and bilateral relations were discussed.

Oku.AzHead of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Sütçü İmam University in Türkiye, Professor Togrul Ismail He said that the United States is trying to use Armenia as a proxy state for its own interests.

“The largest US embassy in the South Caucasus is located in Armenia. Despite the fact that Armenia is a strategic ally of Russia and a member of the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union, Washington has singled out Yerevan as a weak link in the region and is trying to expand and strengthen its sphere of influence through it. The recent processes and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s phone call to Pashinyan are an indication of this.

However, unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan, which is not a member of NATO or the European Union and maintains its neutrality, did not fall into this trap. As for peace talks, I can say that all major powers want them. However, the main question is the form of peace negotiations and how to prepare a peace agreement. All major powers want the process to be conducted in such a way that they can intervene at any time. That is, the goal of the United States today is to remove Armenia from Russia’s control and exert its influence on it when a peace treaty is signed. However, official Washington must know that no format or solution will last for a long time without ensuring the national security interests of Baku. In all cases, Armenia must comply with the legitimate demands of Azerbaijan, the victorious state, in accordance with international law. There is no other way.
