Promoting talents in STEAM professions: youth employment

STEAM careers – an acronym that refers to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics – span a wide range of industries and specialties with high demand for professionals in their fields continuing to increase year on year. All these areas of knowledge have one thing in common: they address very transversal skills, facilitating the implementation of acquired knowledge.

In Spain, according to the latest report from the CYD Foundation, 18.8% of graduates come from STEM careers, a fact which indicates that there is a deficit of professionals with these degrees compared to the European average (25.1 %).

In this context, universities, companies and even entities play an important role in providing students of these degrees with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. With this objective, Universia, a company of Banco Santander dedicated to the management and promotion of young talents, launched the initiative Talent race, a challenge for final year students or recent graduates with STEAM profiles to encourage them to have their first job opportunity in large companies.

A talent and inclusiveness competition

Talent race This is a talent competition to which students with or without disabilities, with a high level of English, digital skills and in their final year of a degree or recent graduates can apply. These will participate in a selection process based on the dynamics of the game in which their skills will be evaluated, promoting sustainable development with challenges that will be posed to promote the construction of an inclusive and diverse society. Selected individuals will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to high-level companies and organizations such as Banco Santander, Fundación Universia, Repsol and IE.

As part of the alliance with Fundación Universia – a leading entity in the field of skilled employment and linked to the development of diverse talents – the competition will have 10% university participants with disabilities. Additionally, at the in-person event, all attendees will be able to experience first-hand what the first day in the office is like for someone with a visual impairment through the experience. Open your senses.

The registration process in Talent race, open until October 19, begins with a soft skills test —general skills— in which your skills and professional profile will be evaluated. Those who successfully complete this first phase will be able to participate in an exclusive master class offered by AWS (Amazon Web Services) in which they will learn how AWS works DeepRaceran initiative that promotes machine learning and the use of artificial intelligence by programming autonomous vehicles in simulation, in addition to receiving valuable advice for the grand finale. In this process, they will also go to the IE to participate in a meeting on sustainability and energy transition.

The grand finale of Talent race It will take place on November 21 during an in-person event in which multidisciplinary teams will be formed to solve various challenges through gaming. Each member of the winning team will receive a scholarship to study at IE, and various Financial rewards of up to 3,000 euros will also be distributed.

A commitment to education, employability and entrepreneurship

This initiative reinforces Banco Santander’s commitment for more than 27 years to education, employability and entrepreneurship, which sets it apart from the rest of the world’s financial entities.
