Prosecutor’s Office denounces alleged sexual conversion therapy of a teacher at a Valencia school

The deputy prosecutor for hate crimes of the Valencia Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, Susana Gisbert, has filed a complaint with the High Court of Torrent against the teacher against whom she opened an investigation last July following the complaints from former students of a charter school located in Alaquàs for the alleged application of sexual conversion therapies.

The representative of the public prosecutor considers that the facts could constitute an offence committed during the exercise of the fundamental rights and public freedoms and/or against moral integrity, provided for in Article 510 of the Criminal Code, without prejudice to any subsequent legal qualification, as the investigation progresses.

For this reason, he filed a complaint against the teacher and forwarded the procedure to the Dean of the Courts of Torrent, to which the investigation by area corresponds, for its distribution and the opening of the corresponding procedure.

In the middle of July, the complaint of several former students of the school emerged. Mother Josefa Campos de Alaquàs (Valencia) to a teacher at that center – where he no longer works, as was revealed earlier this month – for allegedly subjecting them to sexual conversion therapy. The teacher runs a diocesan family orientation center called Mater Misericordiae, located in Valenncia.

In the complaints, the young people claimed that the teacher had subjected them to these practices. Specifically, one of them said that this teacher “had offered him a pill to cure homosexuality“.

After learning of this, the Ministry of Education announced that it would inform the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the complaint for these practices, which are prohibited by Valencian legislation. For its part, the Archbishopric of Valencia He said that while he had no evidence that such practices had been carried out, he would investigate “the known actions”.

Regarding the Family Orientation Center (COF), he noted that he had received “no complaints from people assisted” and affirmed that the Mater Misericordiae “This is not an official body of the diocese.but a public association of the faithful, which has its own statutes.” The Spanish Association against Conversion Therapies also announced that it would address the Valencia Provincial Prosecutor’s Office regarding these events.
