Anti-government protests began in Georgia cities on the afternoon of November 28.
The Georgian opposition reacted to the statement of the country’s prime minister. Irakli Kobakhidzewhich announced the suspension of negotiations with the European Union until 2028. At a rally held near the Georgian Dream main office in Tbilisi, a joint opposition appeal was read:
“After the statement of the Prime Minister, elected by the illegitimate parliament on November 28, Georgia’s European path, its European integration and the country’s historical course were finally rejected. This is a measure contrary to the Constitution of Georgia, which flagrantly violates the independence and sovereignty of the country. This decision is an unprecedented betrayal in Georgia’s history, which will cause irreparable harm to future generations and pose an extreme threat to the integrity of the State of Georgia. People are also gathering in front of the Georgian Parliament building to protest against Kobakhidze’s statement on rejecting negotiations with the EU until 2028.
At the same time, protesters are also gathering near the presidential administration and then joining the action near parliament. President Salome Zurabishvili holds an “emergency meeting with diplomats” here. Representatives of pro-European opposition parties also attended the meeting.
