One of the leaders of the Abkhaz opposition, Adgur Ardzinba, spoke about the reasons for the protests that began in Sukhum and on the Gumista Bridge on the afternoon of November 11.
“You all witnessed how our comrades were detained today. These are two former parliamentarians, a lawyer, a former employee of the presidential administration, an athlete and a patriot. Arrests had already been made before this. Aslan Bzhania, Unfortunately, in his speech at the Ministry of the Interior he uttered the following phrase: he called us all, a large part of our country, extremists. Shevardnadze During the war, he called our parents separatists, today we have become extremists in our land… Realizing the complete lack of legitimacy, Aslan Bzhania decided to scare someone with supposedly intimidating methods, but this always had the opposite effect in Abkhazia. “ – Ardzinba threatened.
Two other opposition representatives are deputies Kaan Kvarchia AND Levan Mikaa- Near the Gumistinsky Bridge, blocked by protesters, they call on people to come out for a massive protest against the detention of their comrades.
However, as pro-government publics point out, the protest is not becoming widespread.
“Due to the impossibility of gathering people in Freedom Square, the opposition representatives moved to the Gumista Bridge. But even there the number of opposition supporters does not exceed 150 people,” writes the Amra life telegram channel.
At 23:37 in Sukhum there were still no more than 50 people in Freedom Square, near the Council of Ministers, the channel’s author estimated.
“With this we can say that the action in the Plaza de la Libertad ended. Even Levan Mikaa’s fiery speeches about 37 and Erica Rshtuni about the “traditional and correct” guys couldn’t get people out on the streets,” – writes.
As reported EADaily The riots in Abkhazia began this afternoon in Sukhum after the arrest of six opponents. According to local public reports, they were preparing a coup on Friday, when parliament was due to ratify the investment agreement with Russia.
