PSG appeals LFP legal committee decision in favour of Kylian Mbappé

With its back against the wall, Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG) has no intention of paying Kylian Mbappé the 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses that the player is demanding. Eight days after the player’s victory against his former boss before the legal commission of the Professional Football League (LFP), the club has indicated to World having appealed the body’s decision of 12 September. This was formally submitted on Thursday 19 September.

The legal commission ordered PSG “proceed within one week to pay the outstanding salary amounts” to the attacker, “that is, the salaries and ethics bonuses corresponding to the months of April, May and June 2024, as well as the deadline for the hiring bonus which expires on February 29, 2024”.

“As a matter of principle, PSG appealed the ruling of the LFP commission, despite its limited effect, the club assures. In fact, PSG’s position is much more than a solid legal position: it is also a question of good faith, honesty, maintaining values and respect for the Parisian institution and its supporters, which is more important than any player. »

Other possible remedies

The decision of the LFP’s legal committee was a resounding rejection of the club’s management, which had been reminded of its obligations as a businessman. The latter had justified the non-payment of these sums by arguing for a proposal made by the player to its president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, in August 2023, to give up part of his income if he left without transfer compensation at the end of his contract in June 2024.

At the time, the French international approached the PSG leaders, when they sent him to train at the “loft”with other footballers considered undesirable, outside the professional group.

However, the club’s arguments were flatly rejected by the LFP’s legal committee. “Considering that the elements brought to the attention of the commission cannot prove either an agreement resulting from the offer made by Kylian Mbappé (…)or a right of PSG not to pay the salary elements provided for on the basis of a waiver or a verbal agreement, of which the club is the only one to rely and of which it does not prove either the existence or the content », The commission considered that “then it is wrong” who did not pay her aggressor the sums provided for in the modification of the employment contract entered into “between the parties on May 21, 2022 and approved by the LFP on June 23, 2022”.
