PSOE refuses to demand more resources from Sánchez to care for the men who arrived in Mallorca

The PSOE of the Balearic Islands, led by the president of the Congress Francina Armengol, refused during the plenary session of the Consell of Mallorca to demand from the government of Pedro Sánchez more resources and facilities to care for the men arriving on the island who, as of today, There are already 202 this year, surpassing last year’s 180.

The Popular Group of the island institution accused the socialists this Thursday of “prioritize their political interests over reception worthy of migrant minors.

This is how the PP spokesperson expressed herself in the island institution: Nuria Rierain a statement in which he also stressed that the president of the institution, Llorenc Galmeshas repeatedly requested government assistance Pedro Sanchez “to cope with the constant arrival of young immigrants on the island.”

Riera also criticised the PSOE spokesperson in the Consell of Mallorca, Catalina Claderabelieving that “he is only following the orders that come from Madrid, without worrying about the critical situation that we are experiencing here.”

In this sense, Riera considered that the PSOE of Mallorca had the opportunity to “to show that they are on the side of the most vulnerable and the Majorcans.

Among the main measures requested by the Consell de Mallorca from the central government are the declaration of a state of emergency on the island to speed up administrative procedures, the urgent convening of the Conference of Autonomous Presidents to face the crisis, the implementation of a comprehensive immigration policy by the central Executive and the formal recognition of the migratory route that affects Mallorca.

Also the President of the Government, Marga Prohensaccused the Secretary of State for Youth and Children, Ruben Perezof having “insulted” the citizens of the Balearic Islands and the institutions for their “carelessness” and that of the central government in matters of immigration policy.

In statements to the media in Lloseta, Prohens referred to the meeting held this Wednesday by the representative of the Central Executive with representatives of the Government and the island councils and regretted the lack of response from Madrid to the migratory phenomenon, and in particular to the reception of minors, in the archipelago.

At this meeting, the Secretary of State for Youth and Children defended that The Balearic Islands do not suffer from migratory invasion.

On the other hand, the president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, described it as “borderline situation” and recalled that a year ago the Council had seven reception centres for immigrant minors and that currently there are 12.

This is why Galmés specified that “Mallorca will not accept minors who come from other autonomous communities of Spain”, criticizing the fact that the central Executive only proposes medium and long-term solutions to face a situation of “overflow”.

“The Consell de Mallorca has exhausted its available resources and it is essential that the central government assumes its responsibility to avoid an imminent collapse,” Galmés said.

“We have an urgent problem and it is postponed,” added the Minister of Family and Social Affairs. Catalina CirerRegarding the reception areas, Cirer defended that they must be residential spaces, like those used for the reception of other minors.

For President Prohens, it is not a question of “solidarity in distribution” but rather the fact that the institutions of the Islands have reached their capacity limit. “It is bad news that the government and the island councils are leaving this meeting disappointed,” he said.

In this regard, the president assured that she does not feel challenged by Vox’s threat to extend the rupture of pacts with the PP also in the municipal councils due to the immigration policy, because ““competitive reality is what it is.”
